Autism affects communication and social interaction as well as thinking and behaviour. It is not a disease or illness, and it cannot be treated or cured. It is better to think about autism as a brain difference which is fundamental to who a person is. Autism is a spectrum condition. This means that each person on the autism spectrum will have a different set of characteristics in each area of the autism spectrum.
